David H. Johnson, Licensed Clinical Social Worker

David H. Johnson, MS, L.C.S.W. is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with certification and training in addictions, hypnotherapy and Gestalt. For over 30 years, David has provided counseling services for individuals, couples and families, and has a specialty in mixed gender groups.  He utilizes a holistic approach, emphasizing healing of mind, body, spirit and emotions.

David’s unique style has application to addictions and recovery work, identity issues, life transitions and spirituality.  In addition, David addresses codependency issues, including self-care and all types of intimate relationships.

His goal throughout his professional work and personal life has been to integrate all aspects of the human person: mind, body, spirit and emotions. He has held therapist positions at various holistic health centers in the Chicago area. David has been conducting therapy as the Heartwood Center for Body, Mind, Spirit since 2004. Previously, he spent eight years as part owner in a psychotherapy practice in northwest Evanston, Central Partners. Much of David’s therapeutic education has come from various alternative and non-accredited programs, including Self-Acceptance Training and Gestalt Training.

He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine and the Association for the Advancement of Gestalt Therapists.  He has a M.A. degree in Social Work from the University of Chicago and a M.S. degree in Physical Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

David has come to learn that we are all “energy made flesh”. It is through our bodies and our senses that we know the “truth” for ourselves. By going into the body with new information and messages of safety and love, we have the opportunity to heal from whatever wounding that may have occurred in the past.
